Nigerian Nurses Call on NANNM to Recognize Justina Ejelonu on International Nurses Day

Nigerian Nurses have unanimously called
on the Leadership of the National
Association of Nigerian Nurses (NANNM)
to leverage on the international nurses
day celebration coming up on the 12th
of May 2015 at the NAF Conference hall
in Abuja to recognize the gallant efforts
of the late justina ejelonu in the fight
against the deadly ebola virus.

They made this call for a post humous
award for the late nurse on the Nursing
world Nigeria facebook group. You would
recall that Nurse Justina Ejelonu paid the
ultimate price in service to humanity
during the ebola outbreak and in doing
so spared Nigeria from the widespread
rampage that the disease wrecked on
sister african nations.

Earlier in December 2014, Nursingworld
had given her the "Nurse Heroine of the
Year" award while believeing that
NANNMs silence on the issue was a long
period of planning a befiting ceremony
and honour commensurate with the level
of selfless sacrifice she made.

Reacting, Okorie peter said "She
deserves More than that. I know what
late Miss Justina passed through in
EBSU to obtain her RN & BNSc. She later
gave her best during her NYSC at Ogun
State. Finally, she gave her LIFE in
defence of our Noble Profession &
Nigeria at large. She helped in moulding
the younger generation of Nurses as
much as she could......oh I still have
some of the Past Question papers, notes
& samples of Client care study she gave
me when I was preparing for my GNC n
Midwifery exams. May God grant her
Eternal Rest in HIS Bossom.... AMEN!!!"
Nurse Adeife added that "she deserves
more than a National Award. You won't
believe that some Nurses don't even
know her name. They only know that a
nurse died in the course of saving
others" while Banjo Babatunde
suggested that a formal request to have
her honoured be made to the National
President of NANNM as an input to the
International Nurses Day celebrations.
