Cop impersonator who picked up prostitute gets 10 years

A married father who trolled for prostitutes and impersonated a police officer after they requested payment puzzled a Brooklyn judge before he slapped the foolish man with a 10-year sentence.

"You've made a series of choices that are mind-boggling," said Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Alan Marrus as he let out a slight chuckle.

Warren Taylor, 35, was convicted after a jury trial for criminal sex act and criminal impersonation for evading a $40 date with a prostitute by pretending to be a cop and later sending a photo of a gun to the woman's cell phone.

After his arrest, Taylor tried to deny the allegation when he was arrested in Feb. 2012 because he was "too good looking to have sex with prostitutes."

"You had a good job, you were married with children, owned a home. This is a sad state of affairs," said the judge.

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson reiterated the judge's thoughts calling Taylor's actions "troubling."

Assistant District Attorney Joseph DiBenedetto asked the judge to throw the sexual predator into prison for 20 years because of the nature of the crime.

"This sentence will show that you did something foolish. I didn't view you as a hardened criminal like in other cases, but what you did creates a problem for yourself for the rest of your life," said Judge Marrus.

"Today's sentence ensures that he's off the streets and in prison, where he belongs," said Thompson.

During his 41 months at Rikers, Taylor turned down a plea agreement of two to four years in prison where he wouldn't have to register as a sex offender.

"I let everyone down. My wife, my son, my friends and Con Edison," said Taylor who lost an eye in a jailhouse fight.

"It's a bit of a wasted life. He had a good life," said Taylor's attorney Paul Hirsch outside of court.
