Giant snow pile still remains in Boston

It may not be Hell that's frozen over, but this comes damned close.

A 12-foot-high, garbage-covered pile of soot-stained ice persistently refuses to melt away in Boston's Seaport section, providing a shocklingly durable reminder of one of the harshest winters that Beantown ever endured.

The New England region was pummeled with storm after storm during the record-setting winter - leaving some parts of the city with 108.6 inches of white powder.

In order to restore order to the city, crews pushed all of the snow to a dozen locations and created the massive heaps, one of which grew to more than 75 feet high. Now, more than two weeks into summer and days after the Boston Pops performed its famed Fireworks Spectacular at the Esplanade, the largest snow mountain is still standing in all of its fantastically begrimed glory.
