Doherty battling breast cancer, sues former managers

Actress Shannen Doherty reportedly is battling breast cancer.

The medical crisis came to light Wednesday after the "Beverly Hills, 90210" filed a lawsuit blaming her former business managers for contributing to the severity of her diagnosis, TMZ.com first reported.

Doherty, 44, is suing management company Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson claiming it caused her to lose her Screen Actors Guild medical insurance in 2014 when it failed to pay her premium, TMZ said.

The policy reportedly was cancelled, leaving her without coverage for a critical period of her illness, she claims.

Once the coverage was reinstated, she went to a doctor and discovered in March that she has "invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node," the lawsuit obtained by TMZ says.

Doherty, who also played Prue Halliwell in the hit WB show "Charmed," claims her doctors told her the cancer spread during 2014, when she was uninsured, the website reported.

The Los Angeles-based actress reportedly suggests she may be forced to take serious treatment measures - including mastectomy and chemotherapy - that could have been avoided with earlier detection.

Attempts to reach Doherty and her lawyer were not immediately successful Wednesday.
