Evidence could get Jenner charged in wreck

Los Angeles police will present evidence to prosecutors that could lead to a misdemeanor manslaughter charge against Caitlyn Jenner, sources told the Daily News on Thursday.

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office will present to prosecutors evidence that Jenner was driving at an unsafe speed when she was involved in a deadly smashup on the Pacific Coast Highway in February, a law-enforcement source said.

"Jenner did begin the chain of events that set off everything. (Jenner) was traveling at an unsafe speed and was the cause of the collision," the source said.

While the "I Am Cait" star was not driving above the speed limit, she was driving at an unsafe speed for the road conditions that day, the source said.

Jenner rear-ended a car being driven by Kim Howe, which was then pushed into oncoming traffic and smashed in by a Hummer. Howe, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"When there's a death in a situation like that, it's vehicular manslaughter. There's a code section. So that's in the presentation for them to look at it. It's being presented because we do have a dead woman. It's up to them to file," the law enforcement source said.

The 100-plus page report will be presented to prosecutors on Tuesday, the source said.

The presentation does not push for a manslaughter charge, but does present it as an option, the source said.

The charge is a misdemeanor, so the most Jenner could get is one year in jail.

The report also found that none of the people involved in the multicar crash were texting or intoxicated.

It does present evidence that could lead to a criminal charge against another driver involved in the Feb. 7 Malibu crash, Jessica Steindorff. Her car was hit by Jenner’s Escalade after it struck Howe.
