Deadliest school shooting leave Ten dead

Ten people are dead and seven injured, three critically, after a gunman stormed an Oregon community college's classroom Thursday morning, officials said.

The shooter, identified by CBS News as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, was killed after exchanging gunfire with police inside of Umpqua Community College in Roseburg at
10:38 a.m., according to Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin. Mercer reportedly was not a student at the small college of some 3,000 full-time students.

One witness told NRToday that the gunman first fired into the Snyder Hall classroom through a window, shooting a writing teacher in the head.

He then entered the room and ordered everyone to stand up and state their religion before firing upon them, student Kortney Morre told
Three pistols and a long rifle, believed to belong to the gunman, were recovered from the scene, a law enforcement official told CNN.

Former UCC President Joe Olson, who retired in June after four years, said the school had no formal security staff, just one officer on a shift.

One woman tweeted that her grandmother was in the classroom and was forced to perform CPR on a friend, "but it was too late," @BodhiLooney wrote.

"The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were christian," she wrote using the lower-case C. "If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn't answer, they were shot in the legs.

"they weren't telling us anything as they put us on buses and drove us offsite. BIG THANKS to local authorities who were on site within minutes, and to our UCC security & administrative staff, who stayed organized under incredible pressure (sic)."
