Driver killed one injured many during Miss Universe pageant contest.

A driver plowed into a packed sidewalk along the Las Vegas strip, killing one person Sunday among three dozen people struck near a venue hosting the Miss Universe pageant.

Several people are in critical condition out of 37 total patients, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Peter Boffelli said at a
media briefing.

“This is a huge tragedy that has occurred on our strip,” Boffelli said.

At least 11 patients were hospitalized and one person who required CPR at the site of the crash died following the wreck, the spokesperson later added.

Traffic was shut down from East Flamingo Road to Harmon Avenue as first responders tended to victims strewn along a sidewalk and crosswalk outside the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.

The driver is in police custody and is undergoing a sobriety test for both alcohol and drugs, authorities said.

The car came to a stop outside the hotel after the collision where a handful of witnesses pounded on the woman’s car window demanding she step out.

The suspected drunk driver drove off and was apprehended outside a nearby hotel.

Despite local reports, police were unable to confirm if the driver had a small child inside the vehicle during the crash.
