Sunday shooting leave 1person dead, 8 others injured

Gunshots rang out in four boroughs on an unseasonably warm Sunday, leaving one man dead and eight others wounded.

The worst of the violence claimed the life of Alfred James, 27, of Brooklyn, who was blasted multiple times outside the Louis Armstrong Houses on
Lexington Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant at 12:30 a.m.

James was rushed to Woodhull Medical Center but couldn’t be saved, police said.

Samuel Hernandez, 53, who lives across from the shooting, awoke to the gunshots and rushed to the window. “There was a guy in a white hoodie shooting someone,” he said. “A guy was saying ‘Don’t shoot me, don’t shoot me.’ He ran and then he fell. I heard like five shots.”

James’ mother, Georgia, said her son, a former swimming coach, obtained an associate’s degree from Global Institute and wanted to work with handicapped kids.

“He was a nice person,” she said. “He was a person who wanted to do things for people.”

James had 12 arrests, all but one sealed.

NYDN

Police taped off the area on Lexington Ave. in Brooklyn where Alfred James was shot and killed.
His pants pockets were turned inside out, suggesting robbery was a motive for his killing, cops said.

Just five minutes earlier, a 37-year-old man was shot in his right leg on Webster Ave., near E. 170th St., in Claremont Village, the Bronx. He went to St. Barnabas Hospital and was in stable condition.

At about 2:30 a.m., also in the Bronx, an unidentified man was shot in the face at the Garage Bar and Lounge on Tillotson Ave. in Eastchester. He was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, according to cops.
