A call on NASS to intervein in implementation of National Health Act 2014.- NMA

Medical doctors have called on the National Assembly to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently implement the National Health Act passed into law since 2014, saying Nigerians would have access to better healthcare delivery, if law was
implemented. The doctors, under the aegis of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, yesterday, during a peaceful protest to Plateau State House of Assembly in Jos, lamented that two years after the bill was passed, they were still awaiting its implementation. Tabling their grievance before the Speaker, Peter Azi, NMA President, Dr. Mike Ogirima, through the state chapter Chairman, Dr. Meshak Daniel, said: “We wish to remind you that the National Health Act was signed into law in 2014, and as at today, there is no concrete structure on ground to start its implementation. “NMA wishes to draw the attention of Mr. President that provisions in the Act are capable of transforming healthcare delivery in the country in line with the change agenda of the current regime.” Chairman of the chapter, Dr. Christopher Edeh, gave the charge when he addressed newsmen in Keffi, Nasarawa State, to mark the commencement of the association’s week. Responding, Director, Medical Health Care, Keffi Local Government, Dr. Nadawa Absalom, disclosed that Nasarawa State was putting healthcare services under one roof as well as pushing for the implementation of NHA Act for the benefits of the people.
