Militants kill 2 policemen, loot armoury in Calabar

By Emma Una
CALABAR—MILTANTS, Sunday night, launched a fierce attack on the Marine Police Base at Eyo Edem Beach in Calabar, leaving two policemen dead and another in a critical state.
The hoodlums, numbering about 30, came in speed boats and attacked the base at about 2a.m., killing the two officers, while others scampered for safety.
A fisherman said: “The policemen killed were sleeping inside their vehicles, so they could not escape when the militants launched the attack.”
The pirates looted the armoury at the base after destroying several vehicles in the operation that lasted for about one hour.
Cross River State police spokesman, Mr. Hogan Bassey, said only one policeman was killed, with another in a critical state.
