Spokane NAACP president Rachel Dolezal steps down

Rachel Dolezal stepped down as Spokane’s NAACP chapter president without an apology Monday as it was revealed she once sued Howard University for racial discrimination.

Dolezal, 37, sued Howard in 2002 claiming she was denied a teaching post and a scholarship at the historically black college because she was a pregnant white woman, court paperwork first obtained by The Smoking Gun said.

“(Dolezal) presented no evidence that Howard’s failure to hire her following graduation was motivated by race or any other forbidden classification,” the District of Columbia Court of Appeals said in 2005 as it upheld a decision in favor of Howard made in a lower trial court.

The stunning news that Dolezal sued to get protection as a white woman shortly before she reinvented herself in Idaho and Washington state as a black woman was not mentioned in her resignation statement Monday.
