Man drop his marriage proposal ring in the ocean. NY

A North Carolina man's disastrous marriage proposal attempt had a happy ending after he accidentally dropped the engagement ring into the ocean and nearby strangers helped bring the bling back to his bride-to-be.

Matthew Picca, 25, had grand plans to get down on one knee and ask his girlfriend Kayla Harrity for her hand in marriage last weekend - but the ring had a mind of its own, the couple said.

"I turned around and he was getting down on one knee," Harrity, 24, told WBTV. "As he opened the ring box, the ring fell out of the box and fell through the cracks on the deck and into the water. I didn't even get to see it before it dropped."

The shocked and speechless woman said she didn't know what else to do but stare at her beau and bawl.

"I covered my face and began to cry because I knew my boyfriend was devastated," she recalled. "Matthew did not even get to say anything to me before the ring fell into the ocean."

Passersby and patrons at a nearby bar in Southport, N.C., immediately leapt into action, jumping into the water to scoop up the ring and save the proposal.

Harrity recalled frantically running into restaurants, desperately asking if anyone had googles.

After a nearly two-hour search — with 10 flashlights and five pairs of goggles — a man shouted out that he found the ring.

"Everyone at the bar was cheering. All of a sudden, everyone was chanting 'Propose again! Do it again!'" Harrity told WBTV. "It was the best feeling in the world. My fiancé, soaking wet, smelling like salty, fishing water, proceeded to get down on one knee and put the beautiful ring on my finger!"
