Ubani to be immortalize. PMB

The Nigerian Democratic Movement (NDM), and Nigerian Women Activists (NWA) have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immortalize late Comrade Chima Ubani, who died fighting for the survival and sustenance of
democracy in Nigeria.
The activists made the call at a rally held at Allen roundabout, Ikeja, Lagos State, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of late Ubani.

The spokesman for the activists and the Coordinator, Network on Police Reform in Nigeria, Mr. Okechukwu Nwanguma said: “Chima Ubani is one of the greatest thinkers that the Nigerian movements have ever produced. He was one of those who made sacrifices and lived all his life fighting for democracy.”
Requesting for the immortalization of Ubani, Nwanguma said, “Our concern is that Ubani and other men and women who dedicated their lives to the struggle of the Nigerian people should not be allowed to die in vain. The least we can do for them is to keep their memories alive, to continue to inspire younger Nigerians to see the value in fighting for democracy.”
The activists who took their protest to the office of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, in Alausa, to submit a letter to President Buhari, through the Governor, reiterated that activists like Ubani, Gani Fawehinmi, among others, who fought for democracy should be immortalized, adding that their families should also be taken care of by the federal government.
Nwanguma added, “Since 1999, the Federal government has not deemed it necessary to recognize the heroes of our democracy. Ubani died as a result of the suffering he went through in detention because of his principle that Nigeria must be a better country. Buhari should recognize the heroes of democracy in Nigeria, starting from Ubani. He should be immortalized and his family be taken care of.”
It will be recalled that late Com. Ubani died on September 25, 2005 on his way to Maiduguri to join other protesters who were protesting against the removal of fuel subsidy by the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
